Your website has been quietly losing you business for months — maybe years. Most Bergen County B2B owners don’t know it because they only look at the site through their own eyes (logged in, on desktop, with the cache hot). Meanwhile, the actual prospect on a Galaxy phone in a Paramus parking lot sees something completely different. Here are 12 things you can check right now, in about 30 minutes, with no tools beyond your phone and a browser.
Trust signals — does your site look like a real business?
Open your homepage in an incognito window. You have about 5 seconds before a prospect decides whether to keep reading or hit the back button. Those 5 seconds are won or lost on trust.
- Phone number above the fold. Not buried in the footer. Bergen County buyers still call. A missing phone number costs you 15–30% of high-intent leads.
- Physical address visible. Even if you work from home — “Serving Bergen County, NJ” beats nothing. Google trusts businesses with locations.
- Real photos of real people. Stock photos of suits shaking hands tank trust instantly. One photo of you at your desk in Hackensack beats ten Shutterstock smiles.
Conversion paths — can a prospect actually hire you?
Pretend you’re a prospect who just landed on your site from a Google search. Try to hire yourself. If it takes more than two clicks to find a way to contact you, you’re leaking $5,000–$50,000 in revenue per month, depending on your deal size.
- One primary CTA per page. Not “Learn More” and “Contact” and “Get Quote” and “Subscribe.” Pick one. Repeat it.
- Contact form under 5 fields. Name, email, phone, “what do you need,” submit. Every extra field drops conversions ~10%.
- Thank-you page actually exists. Not just an alert that says “Submitted!” A real page where you confirm next steps and set expectations.
Technical SEO — is Google even finding you?
You don’t need to be an SEO expert. You need to confirm the basics aren’t broken. Type your domain into Google with site:yourdomain.com. If fewer than 10 pages show up, you have a problem.
- Title tags unique per page. Hover over your browser tab. If every page says “Home | Your Company,” Google can’t tell them apart.
- Meta descriptions written. View source, search for
meta name="description". If it’s missing or duplicated, fix it. - One H1 per page. Right-click → Inspect → search
h1. If you find zero or three, your headings are broken.
Mobile UX — the test 70% of sites fail
Pick up your phone. Open your site. Try to read it without zooming. Try to tap the menu. Try to fill the contact form with your thumb. About 70% of Bergen County B2B sites fail at least one of these — usually because the designer built it on a 27-inch monitor and never tested on a real phone.
- Body text 16px minimum. Anything smaller and a 50-year-old prospect can’t read it without pinching.
- Tap targets 44x44px minimum. Buttons and links you can hit with a thumb without zooming.
- Page loads under 3 seconds on 4G. Turn off WiFi, switch to cellular, time the load. Anything over 3 seconds and half your visitors leave.
