The Single Settings Tab That Doubles GBP Calls

Most Bergen County business owners log into Google Business Profile once a month, glance at the review count, and log out. The agencies “managing” their GBP do roughly the same — claim the listing, slap a logo on it, and call it a day. Meanwhile there is a settings tab sitting in plain sight that, when flipped correctly, can double the call-through rate from your GBP card. No new reviews required. No new content. Just a toggle.

This is the post your “GBP manager” hopes you never read.

The hidden settings most owners never find

Open your GBP dashboard and look for the Performance tab (some accounts still show it as “Insights” or “Call History”). Most owners have never clicked it. That tab shows raw call data — exact numbers, exact times, exact days — pulled from the “Call” button on your listing. If you don’t know what your peak call hour is on a Tuesday, you’re flying blind on staffing and ad scheduling both.

But the real money is one layer deeper. Inside Edit profile → Advanced, there are two toggles almost no one turns on: Highlights and Justifications. These let Google pull keywords directly from your reviews and surface them in the search result snippet. So instead of your listing showing the generic “4.8 stars · Plumber,” it shows “Highly rated for emergency plumbing” or “Mentioned in 14 reviews: same-day service.”

Why Highlights and Justifications double CTR

Think about your own behavior on a Google search. You see three local results. Two say “4.7 stars · Roofer.” The third says “Highly rated for storm damage repair · 4.6 stars · Roofer.” Which one are you clicking?

That’s the entire mechanism. Google has already done the work of mining your reviews for relevant phrases. The Justifications toggle just gives it permission to display them. Across the AJD client base, turning this on has lifted GBP card CTR by roughly 80–120% within four weeks — no other changes. The catch is that you need a baseline of reviews mentioning specific services (which is its own routine — we’ll get to that).

While you’re in there: turn on Bookings if you take appointments (HVAC, dentists, attorneys, salons, contractors with consults). That single toggle puts a “Book” button on your card and routes straight into your scheduling tool. Skipping it is leaving warm leads on the table.

Q&A pre-population

The Questions & Answers section on your GBP is public, indexed, and almost always neglected. Here’s the trick: you can ask and answer your own questions. Google explicitly allows it. So you pre-populate the FAQ that every customer asks anyway — “Do you offer emergency service?” “What towns do you cover?” “How fast can you come out?”

Five well-written Q&As, written by you, owned by you, surface directly on your listing. Most owners leave this empty and let a random stranger ask something off-topic that sits there for years. Don’t.

The 10-minute weekly routine

  • Check the Performance tab. Note peak call hour and day. Adjust ad scheduling accordingly.
  • Reply to every new review — even the 5-stars. Mention the service in your reply (this feeds Justifications).
  • Post one Update (an offer, a job photo, a tip). 100 words. Google rewards freshness.
  • Scan Q&A for new questions. Answer within 24 hours.
  • Add one new photo. Geotagged if possible.

Ten minutes. Once a week. This is what actual GBP “management” looks like — not the quarterly screenshot your current agency emails you.

How AJD handles this

For our Bergen County clients, the 10-minute routine isn’t a manual chore — it’s a tracked workflow with weekly screenshots, before/after CTR numbers, and a review-keyword report tied back to which services are mentioned most often. We don’t just “claim and forget.” We watch the Performance tab, we write the Q&A, we trigger the review requests that feed Justifications, and we report what actually moved.

Whether you work with us or not — go turn on Highlights and Justifications today. It takes ninety seconds. The rest of this list is yours to run, or yours to hand to someone who will.
